Cruise, city of Pérouges and Bugey vineyards
About
It's a story... of a train, a boat, a town, a village, a vineyard, healing plants, and it's all to be discovered in the Ain!
Day 1: Pérouges and train history
Morning:
The famous medieval town of Pérouges, a former weaving village dating back to the 12th century, now classified as one of the "Most Beautiful Villages in France", opens its doors to you. Let yourself be guided along the cobbled streets and ramparts, and immerse yourself in the extraordinary history of this village. Back to the Middle Ages guaranteed!
Lunch in a restaurant in the heart of the medieval town.
Afternoon:
Join local railway enthusiasts for a guided tour of the Musée du Cheminot in Ambérieu-en-Bugey. As you explore the 950 m2 of collections on display to the public, you'll relive the history that links the railroads to the town, and be captivated by the volunteers who founded this museum to safeguard this industrial heritage for future generations.
Continue to the Caveau Bugiste* nestled at the top of the village of Vongnes. To round off the day, we propose a tasting of wines from their production. The expression "Bugey, land of conviviality" will take on its full meaning!
Check-in at the Sweet Home 2* hotel in Belley
Dinner at the Zest Urban restaurant next door (direct access to the restaurant bar from the hotel).
Day 2: Discover the Bugey region
Morning:
Option 1:
Over a century ago, Brother Henri-Marie, a herbalist with the Confrérie des Frères de la Sainte Famille, perfected a secret formula. No fewer than 32 wild plants gathered in the region gave birth to KARIO, a tonic and restorative drink. After a delicate maceration in oak casks (some of which can hold up to 18,000 liters) and surrounded by the scent of aromatic plants, distillation takes place in traditional steam-heated stills. After the guided tour, you'll be able to sample a wide selection of beneficial herbal beverages.
Free time in Belley to admire the streets and buildings of the old town.
Option 2:
Let us guide you through the streets of Belley, the historic capital and birthplace of Brillat-Savarin. Admire the heart of the old town and the religious buildings that have marked its history (Episcopal Palace, Saint-Jean-Baptiste cathedral, Cordeliers convent...).
Lunch at an inn, where you can sample cuisine prepared with fresh, seasonal produce.
Afternoon:
Guided cruise on the Upper Rhône. Embark at Lavours-La Paillère, cruise for 1 hour 50 minutes on the canalized Rhône, passing through the lock, the Savières canal and the north of Lac du Bourget, then return. Disembarkation in the village of Chanaz (possibility of a self-guided tour of the village).
End of program.
