Le Crêt de Monthoux
About
The Crêt de Monthoux offers breathtaking views of the Dent du Chat, the vineyards and the Chevelu lakes. It's a 5-minute climb from the hamlet. It's also a stopover on the Tour des Lacs de Chevelu hiking trail, a 4h30 loop.
Crêt de Monthoux overlooks the unspoilt hamlet of Les Grangeons. This hamlet is made up of old sartos, also known as "grangeons", which have now been restored. These small buildings were used to store tools and preserve wine from the cellars.
The Chevelu lakes were formed by the collapse of part of the Dent du Chat after the retreat of the last Würm glaciers. Their surface area is relatively small and their depth does not exceed 8m. Together with the surrounding marshes, springs and streams, they form a natural basin with a high heritage value.
